JET: A fast-paced reading intervention

JET is a one-year, accelerated dyslexia intervention developed by Scottish Rite for Children. Designed specifically for older learners with dyslexia (ages 13 and older), JET provides explicit, systematic, multimodal instruction that efficiently addresses the literacy needs of adolescents and adults.

The curriculum consists of 124 structured lessons delivered in either a one-on-one or small-group setting (1–6 students). For optimal student outcomes, the curriculum is taught:

  • 60 minutes, four (4) days per week (recommended), or

  • 45 minutes, five (5) days per week

Who Should Apply?

  • Educators, interventionists, or tutors working with adolescents or adults with dyslexia who wish to become Certified Academic Language Practitioners (CALPs).

  • Educators or interventionists who have received training in dyslexia intervention programs other than Take Flight and are seeking specialized preparation to implement JET.

Tuition & Materials—$2,000

  • Eight (8) days of professional development

  • Demonstration lessons evaluations and instructional coaching throughout the training year

  • JET Materials Kit—Practitioner Level (J5000 - $880).

Degree Requirement
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university or college. No teaching certificate is required for training.

Program Requirements
To successfully complete the JET CALP Training Program, participants must:

  • Attend and actively participate in all eight (8) days of professional development.

  • Teach at least one JET intervention group during the training year.

  • Submit five (5) demonstration lessons and participate in instructional coaching and feedback.

  • Read assigned professional articles and textbook chapters and submit one-page reflection reports.

  • Read one (1) book from the approved reading list and submit a one-page reflection.

  • Attend a dyslexia-related conference or professional development totaling at least three (3) continuing education hours.

  • Progress monitor students and submit beginning-of-year (BOY) and end-of-year (EOY) student data.

Certification & Licensure

  • Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP)

    Graduates of the JET CALP Training Program will earn the designation of Dyslexia Practitioner and will be eligible to sit for the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) Competency Examination at the Practitioner Level. Upon successful completion of the examination and ALTA requirements, participants may earn the Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) credential.

  • Texas Licensed Dyslexia Practitioner (LDP)

    Certified Academic Language Practitioners in good standing may be eligible to apply for licensure as a Licensed Dyslexia Practitioner (LDP) under Texas law (HB 461). Applicants should refer to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) for current licensure requirements.
